The Kaleidoscope
When people come to see me about their family relationships with their children they are sometimes afraid that through the process of change they will lose some essential part of themselves, be judged, criticised, made to feel inadequate or have a finger pointed at them.
But parent coaching isn’t like that at all – I like to make sure that it feels like an easy conversation ….. but with a purpose.
We are all changing, growing and learning as we are all made up of a collection of many parts, and those parts are continually re-arranging themselves all the time.
I often think of family life being a bit like a child’s toy kaleidoscope with all the little bits of coloured glass jiggling around inside.
Inside the kaleidoscope the same number of parts can be made to create millions of different patterns and the exact detail of the patterns is not always under your control, but you can turn the lens as many times as you want to create more and more patterns until you find one that you want to keep!!!
I often think of the parents who come to see me as having a pattern that they don't like and are not able to sort out clearly by themselves as they are so close to the situation.
We all get stuck in the wood for the trees scenarios sometimes don’t we?
So really, all Parent Coaching does is to reorganise your family life's kaleidoscope into a more beautiful, fulfilling and relaxed arrangement – a bit like when you’ve shaken your kaleidoscope into a lovely pattern that you’re really happy with.
I just help you turn your lens until you find the pattern that you like best.
Feel free to pass this on......
